ABOUT THE EVENT

Context

Objetive

At a time when different strategies are being proposed for worldwide economic reactivation, a unique opportunity is presented for the appropriation and implementation of economic strategies based on the use of data, accompanied by governance mechanisms that allow their performance and development.

Promote discussion around the use of data as a driver for building and deploying a strategy for economic reactivation.

C4IR.CO proposed a discussion based on the Latin American perspective to understand the main challenges we have regarding governance, implementation, and appropriation of data-based technologies and solutions, particularly for the public sector.

CEPEI´S CONTRIBUTION

Our Director mentioned how achieving the SDG by 2030 requires creative approaches that have a foundation on quality data produced by different actors. He said that “data analysis should be a transparency tool available to the public.”

According to Schönrock,  “One of the main problems we face nowadays is that Global South countries are not sharing their data on COVID-19, as well as good practices to contain the pandemic”. He also highlighted that there are a lot of platforms out there on COVID-19 data, but not many people are using them, and “this needs to change”.

“There is a bunch of data out there, the really important question is how are we going to use them”.
