As part of the activities of the Data for Now initiative that Cepei carries out, between May 28 and 29, we organized this workshop that sought to explore the governance and architecture of the Paraguayan Water Information System, focusing on the measurement of SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), as well as the management of natural disasters.
With the participation of the General Directorate of Statistics, Surveys and Censuses (DGEEC) and the Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DAPSAN) of Paraguay, the workshop sought to identify common elements of international experiences in the implementation of water information systems.

The 24 attendees exchanged experiences in the design of water SDG indicators. For this, the DGEEC and DAPSAN presented the progress of the consultancy on indicators, governance and other issues regarding water, carried out by Cepei with the support of a local consultant.
Experts from UNEP and FAO, shared their technical expertise during the meeting.

Additionally, the workshop was developed through a series of practical exercises, which allowed participants to discuss the roles, responsibilities, capacities and resources needed for the Water Information System in the country.
Some attendees of the activity were: representatives of the National Statistical Office of Paraguay, the National University of Asunción, members of the Paraguayan Water Information Committee, the Itaipu binational hydroelectric dam, and The Ministries of Environment, Technology and Agriculture.
