Connecting multiple stakeholders to accelerate SDG implementation

“In 2022, Cepei adapted in Latin America the 17 Rooms initiative, created by the Brookings Institution and the Rockefeller Foundation, to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region. Actions that could be carried out in the short term were created through dialogue among all the different actors.” 

The 17 Rooms initiative prioritized the assimilation of the SDGs over their individual assessment. Participants were gathered in four rooms focused on SDG subgroups. Three of them focused on the dimensions of sustainable development (social, economic, and environmental), and the fourth on promoting enabling environments.

Principales hallazgos

On the other hand, although its application at the regional level was effective, it is necessary that, at the moment of replicating it elsewhere to carry out a prior process of analysis and adaptation of the steps to the particularities of the region where it will be implemented.

At a national level, the institution leading the completion and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda can find down-to-earth and tangible visions about strains and engagement opportunities in the actions arising from the process.

The results of each regional 17 Rooms process are also an input that can nourish the discussions concerning the sustainable development regional forums, as well as contribute to the work of the UN resident coordinators in the different countries of the region and to the regional development system of the organizations, especially its economic commissions and the regional bureaus of its Development Coordination Office (OCD).

Main Findings
