On October 17, during the Internet Governance Forum 2023, held in Kyoto (Japan), Cepei presented the results of the SDG Acceleration Roadmap, an initiative created together with LIRNEasia, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and in collaboration with the Local Development Research Initiative (LDRI) of Kenya, the Caribbean Open Institute (COI) of Jamaica and the Center for Continuing Education (CCE) of Palestine.
This initiative mapped 394 company data actions in Africa, Latin America, Asia, the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to understand their contribution to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The result was the publication of eight case studies demonstrating that data produced by the private sector has real value for the public sector.
“In the global south the most successful public-private data initiatives are those where partners invest resources to establish proof of concept, build trust, and adapt and iterate the value proposition over time.”
Philipp Schönrock, CEO of Cepei
During the event, Philipp Schönrock, Executive Director of Cepei stated that the case studies demonstrate that “it is imperative to promote these collaborations, especially in the global south, in order to help close the data gaps related to climate change, poverty and inequality”.
