Cepei, LIRNEasia, the Local Development Research Institute (LDRI), the African Institute for Mathematical Science (AIMS), and The Center of Internet and Society (CIS), with the support of the International Development Research Center (IDRC) of Canada, present the initiative Big Data for Development Network, a initiative with the objective of developing policy relevant research on big data for development.
Focusing on activities linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), BD4D´s work will encompass both big data analyses as well as capacity development, while innovating on data partnerships and collaborations with private sector companies and policy makers. It will also develop a critical perspective on issues related to big data such as marginalization, privacy, rights, ethics, and competition. Combining global coordinated research efforts and the regional hubs of Africa, Asia, and Latin America, the network will embed the findings of the project into global policy discussions.
Cepei leads the Latin America Hub, while LIRNEasia and The Center of Internet and Society (CIS) the Asian Hub. As for the African Hub, it is lead by the Local Development Research Institute (LDRI) and the African Institute for Mathematical Science (AIMS).
