UN General Assembly
The United Nations General Assembly is the leading and most democratic organ, where all its members are present, with equal voting rights. It has the power to discuss relevant issues for the international community.
Since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Cepei monitors the General Debate in real-time, focusing on the participation of LAC countries and publishing annual reports on its results.
UNGA 2023
On September 5, the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations begins its session until September 26, 2023. The first day of the General Debate will be September 19.
The Trinidadian diplomat, Dennis Francis, was elected president of UNGA 78. He proposed as the main theme of the sessions “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all”.
It is a critical moment in history. At the halfway point, development advances are receding due to climate change, the pandemic generated by COVID-19, and different conflicts. The SDG Summit will bring together world leaders to reflect and discuss concrete actions to accelerate the SDGs and meet the commitments agreed in the 2030 Agenda, mainly those related to financing, ending poverty, and how to achieve a sustainable world.
