The Director of Cepei presented to Ministers of Environment in Buenos Aires the results of our joint work with UN Environment on Integrated Approach, Environmental Governance and 2030 Agenda

Within the framework of the XXI Forum of Environment Ministers, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Director of Cepei, Philipp Schönrock, participated in the Presidential Palace, in a ministerial dialogue on SDGs and Public Policy Management, where he presented to Ministers of the region, the study conducted by Cepei and UN Environment on Integrated Approach for Sustainable Development, Environmental Governance and 2030 Agenda.

The XXI Meeting of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, (October 9-12, 2018), and was organized by the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina, in collaboration with UN Environment.

At this meeting, the ministers of the region followed up on the agreements reached at the XX Meeting of the Forum, held in Cartagena, Colombia, on March 28 and 31, 2016.

Ministers addressed priority issues for the 33 countries of the region related to the fight against pollution, decarbonization of the economy, efficient use of natural resources and green financing, among others. They also discussed the identification of innovative solutions for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, and the role of cooperation in implementing the international commitments that are assumed.

The Forum of Ministers sought to prepare the contributions of the region for the fourth meeting of the United Nations Environment Assembly, which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from March 11 to 15, 2019. The Assembly, the highest  Global decision-making body for the environment, will discuss solutions to environmental challenges and sustainable production and consumption.

   Move towards a truly integrated approach of sustainable development in the construction of Voluntary National Reports.


   Create bridges between the Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and the 2030 Agenda.


Increase the presence of environmental portfolios in the national and regional governance for the implementation and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.


Improve the regional and national environmental statistical profile in Latin America, and generate comprehensive but disaggregated information on the impacts of climate variability and change.


Generate more accurate information on the value of natural capital that allows its value and flows to be incorporated into national accounts through a system of environmental accounts.
