The academic sector in Colombia working on International Cooperation and environmental issues

Cepei was invited to participate in the “International Symposium: emerging scenarios of international cooperation, the environment and security” organized by  the Universidad Militar Nueva Granada. 9 international speakers where part of the event.

The Governance Coordinator of Cepei, Javier Surasky, was invited to participate in the event, with a lecture on “The old, the new and what is pending of the 2030 Agenda”.

Javier stressed that the 2030 Agenda innovates by integrating traditional elements with new visions and proposals. Its implementation requires completing the integration work between both. “New forms of governance are needed, more democratic and global, to reach the SDGs, however, we should not destroy what has worked well,” he remarked.

Among the international guests, Brian Fonseca, Director of the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy of the University of Florida, was in charge of the keynote presentation “The regional situation from a North American perspective, the incursion of new actors in the Region… a new cold war? “.

One of the conferences that focused on environmental issues addressed the relationship between the environment and international security, by Daniel Sanso Rubert Pascual, Professor Degree in Law and Double Degree in Criminology and Psychology at the European University of Madrid. Global climate change policies in Latin America, where also addressed by Guy Edwards, Co-Director of the Climate and Development Lab of the Institute for Environment and Society, Brown University.

 

Regional development Meetings

 

In the framework of the International Symposium, Cepei and the Universidad Nueva Granada, joined efforts to organize the workshop “Creating synergies to implement the Sustainable Development Goals in the Sabana-Centro region”.

The workshop, which was attended by 12 organizations of Sabana – Centro, was led by the Governance Coordinator of Cepei.

During the workshop, Javier focused his intervention on the Integrated Approach of sustainable development, which requires both variables and actors to be integrated. “If the work on the implementation of specific objectives, looses the perspective of their integrality, synergies, effectiveness and efficiency in the use of resources are lost too,” he said.
